Web Development 101 For Conscious Business Owners – Build It Yourself Or Pay A Pro?

April 28th, 2009 Edward Mills Posted in Internet Marketing, Personal Growth, business, conscious business, teleclass No Comments »

Just a quick note to let you know that my geeky alter ego over at Mystic Marketing Services has a free teleclass coming up on Wednesday. If you are considering creating or upgrading an existing website, you’ll want to be on this call.

Mystic Marketing Services Free Teleclass

The web development options and information available are numerous, often contradictory and usually overwhelming.

And especially for a conscious business owner, like you, navigating the web development landscape can be disorienting. As conscious business owners we tend to shy away from the technical stuff. And yet, to reach more people, grow towards our potential, and bring more positive change to the world, we must expand. And that expansion includes the World Wide Web!

Some of the questions I - er my alter ego - will answer include:

  • If I hire someone how much will it cost?
  • If someone builds it for me, what will happen when I want to make updates?
  • If I build it myself how much time will it take?
  • How much will I have to learn?
  • How tech savvy do I need to be?
  • Is it possible to have someone just do the really technical stuff for me?

This free teleseminar will help you understand the key considerations as you make this important business decision. After this seminar you will have the information necessary to make this decision with confidence and clarity.

Please join us on Wednesday, April 29th from 3:00pm - 4:00pm Pacific Time.

The Two Keys to Making Conscious Choices

April 23rd, 2009 Edward Mills Posted in Personal Growth No Comments »

Choices for Deliberate CreatorsI’ve been exploring the concept of choice lately. Choice plays such a huge role in our lives and often we tend forget about the power of choice until we’re faced with a difficult decision.

But, in truth, we make choices every moment of every day. Most of those choices we make unconsciously. And some of those unconscious choices are not in our best interest!

So how do we make more of our choices conscious? How do we make the difficult choices easier? And, perhaps most important, how do we fully live into the choices we make?

I’ve come up with two simple reminders that I use as affirmations whenever I find myself facing a difficult decision. Here they are:

  1. Embrace the truth that in each and every moment, I am at choice. No matter what the external circumstances seem to suggest, I am choosing my path in each and every moment. Resentment serves no one.
  2. Embrace the choices I make and have made. What a blessing to have the ability to choose in each and every moment. And what a gift to have multiple, beautiful, delicious options. Choose one and live fully into it. Regret serves no one.

Is Mark Joyner Doing a 180 on the Law of Attraction?

April 21st, 2009 Edward Mills Posted in Personal Growth No Comments »

If you’ve been through Mark Joyner’s course, Simpleology 101: The Simple Science of Getting What You Want, you probably remember him poking a bit of fun at the Law of Attraction. (If you have not been through Simpleology, I highly recommend it). More specifically, he pokes fun at the belief some have pulled from the Law of Attraction that you can get what you want just by visualizing it. You know, the “I’ll just sit here and meditate and visualize a bag of money falling into my lap” attitude.

I’m pretty sure that, by now, most people have recognized that the Law of Attraction is about much more than visualizing and hoping and praying. But after the movie The Secret became a massive hit many critics pointed out - accurately - that The Secret focused too much on the “thinking” part of the Law of Attraction equation and not enough on the action part.

Soon after the Secret became popular I asked Mark to write a little blurb about his thoughts on the Law of Attraction. Quite honestly, I was expecting him to debunk the idea. But I discovered that he was not as much of a critic of the LoA as some assumed. Here’s part of what he said:

Hey Ed, you asked me to write a note about the Law of Attraction. Many say I’m “not a fan” of it, but that’s not really exactly right. See, it’s not that I’m not a fan of it, it’s just that I can’t personally know whether or not my thoughts actually *attract* things to me.

Without question, if we focus on certain things we’ll definitely notice more of it. One explanation may be that the Reticular Activating System is filtering all of the information around us. Who knows … Maybe it doesn’t matter? Then again, maybe it does.

You can read the rest of his note in this post: the Secret and Simpleology: Mark Joyners Surprising Thoughts.

And if you want to hear even more about Mark’s thoughts on the Law of Attraction, listen to the conversation I had with Mark Joyner on the Law of Attraction and a wide range of other topics.

But now, here comes the most intersting part of this story. Mark is getting ready to launch a new course through his Simpleology Great Teachers program. And guess what the course is on.

The Law of Attraction!

Go figure.

So has he changed his mind about the Law of Attraction? Has he done a complete 180?

Well, I’m not sure. But it looks like he’s going to be sharing his thoughts on why he’s releasing this course over the next few days. You can read about it at the Simpleology Blog. And you also have a chance to win some prizes over there as well.

And, by the way, Mark won’t be teaching the course, His good friend, Joe Vitale, author of The Attractor Factor: 5 Easy Steps for Creating Wealth (or Anything Else) From the Inside Out and The Missing Secret and one of the experts in The Secret is the creator and teacher of this new program.

I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on the Simpleology blog for the next few days as Mark reveals more about why he’s adding this Law of Attraction course to his Great Teachers series. Hope to see you over there.

Review: Waiting For Autumn

April 10th, 2009 Edward Mills Posted in Books, Personal Growth, Resources, reviews No Comments »

Waiting for AutumnI recently finished reading Waiting for Autumn, the new novel from Scott Blum, the founder of the popular personal growth website, the Daily Om. The semi-autobiographical book follows the narrator, Scott, through a period of intense personal development and the awakening of powerful insights and awareness.

Anyone who has been through - or is going through - times of great spiritual growth will relate to the questioning, confusion and uncertainty that Scott experiences on his journey of discovery.

In the tradition of other books of awakening - The Way of the Peaceful Warrior, Conversations with God - Scott Blum weaves together a compelling story with deep insights to draw you into the book.

And for those just embarking on a spiritual journey, a time that can lead to a great deal of stress and even fear, you will get to look over the shoulder of another person and watch as he steps onto a spiritual path for the first time.

This is a book that is much needed in these times of confusion and uncertainty. And while each of our journeys will lead us down different paths, this book provides a road map for the journey of awakening. We may not follow the same road or use the same tools, but the feelings and experiences will be very similar for all of us who walk on the path of the spiritual seeker.

I definitely recommend Waiting for Autumn, and if you order it now, you will be entered to win some great prizes in addition to receiving over 175 free gifts.

Go find out more and order Waiting for Autumn here.

I’ll Meet You There

February 17th, 2009 Edward Mills Posted in Inspiration, Personal Growth, Poetry, quotes, rumi No Comments »

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing
there is a field. I will meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase each other
doesn’t make any sense.

In Relationships When One Of You Wins Both Of You Lose

February 13th, 2009 Edward Mills Posted in Personal Growth, love, relationships No Comments »

As we move towards Valentine’s Day it’s easy to get caught up in the moment, the thrill of new romance, the highs of love, the heat of passion, the thrill of the pursuit.

But what happens later, as you move deeper into the relationship, further into your connection? What happens as you begin to discover the “edges,” and the areas of disagreement and conflict?

And what if you’re at one of those edges now? What if Valentine’s Day is activating one of those areas of conflict? What then? What now?

There is a simple - though perhaps not easy - shift that can help you move through those edges. In my personal experience, and in my observations of clients and friends, when couples move close to that edge, that conflict space, the immediate, and mostly unconscious, reaction is one of defensiveness. Each person in the relationship wants to “protect their turf.” Each partner wants to “win” the battle.

But when one of you “wins” the battle that means the other loses. And if you keep focusing on winning those battles, there can be no winner in the war.

If one of you loses, you both lose.

And as strange as this sounds, if one of you wins, you both lose!

In any conflict or argument or difficult situation the key is not to win, it’s not about “being right” but rather about making it right!

Instead of defending your turf, can you share your turf?

Instead of winning at all costs, can you open up to hear what your partner needs to win?

There is a concept that says “Give to others that which you most want for yourself.” In other words, if you want more money, help others get more money. If you want more peace in your life, bring peace into the life of someone else. If you want more love in your life, share more of your love with others.

And when you find yourself in a place of conflict in your relationship and you feel the desire to “win” surging up inside you, remember that when you help another win, you win.

So in those moments, see if you can pause and ask yourself, “What can I do to help my partner win in this situation?”

Because when you help your partner win, you both win. And, more importantly, your relationship wins!

Remember, when one of you wins, both of you lose.

But when you help your partner win, you both win.

Enjoy your Valentine’s Day.

The Cure for the Money Madness

February 12th, 2009 Edward Mills Posted in Books, Personal Growth, abundance, money No Comments »

Break Your Bad Money Habits, Live Without Financial Stress--and Make More Money!A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of joining 40 or so North Bay Deliberate Creators to celebrate the release of our friend, Spencer Sherman’s, new book, The Cure for Money Madness: Break Your Bad Money Habits, Live Without Financial Stress–and Make More Money!

This book could not come at a better time!

I think we can all agree that we have been witnessing a collective money madness coming out in the world for some time. And this madness is a reflection of the money madness that we hold within ourselves.

Let’s face it, when it comes to money, the vast majority of us are terminally insane!

Spencer’s book addresses that insanity and helps steer us in the direction of sanity, stability and yes, true abundance! As he shares stories from his many years as a high-level financial planner as well as his own journey through that insanity into a (mostly!) sane, grounded, and joyful relationship with money our own money “issues” are illuminated. And with each “Aha” moment that this book provides, we move closer to a space of money sanity!

He also provides practical exercises and tools to help us climb up and out of the often slippery slope of money madness.

If you have ever asked youself, “Why do I always screw up when it comes to money?” or, “Why don’t I ever seem to have enough?” or, “Why is it so difficult to talk about money?” and if you want to understand where those questions come from and how to move beyond them, The Cure for the Money Madness will help.

Check out what Jack Kornfield and Mark Victor Hansen have to say about it:

In these difficult financial times, The Cure for Money Madness offers sanity, clarity, and truly helpful understanding to calm the heart and regain a wise perspective.
–Jack Kornfield, Author of A Path with Heart and Founder of Spirit Rock Meditation Center

You would be crazy not to read this book, cure your money madness, and make more money in every area of your life.
–Mark Victor Hansen, author of Chicken Soup for the Soul
