How to Overcome Disturbing and Distracting Thoughts

May 14th, 2009 Remez Sasson Posted in Concentration and Mind Power, concentration, disturbing thoughts, mind No Comments »

Here is a question somebody asked me, which is relevant to a great number of people:

“I cannot concentrate on things, and I get some things in my mind which really come again and again while doing things, and this makes me very sad. Please help.”

What you focus on grows. If you keep focusing on worries, you only encourage those disturbing and distracting thoughts.

Acknowledge, without letting this worry or discourage you, that you have a problem with concentration, and resolve to do your best to solve it.

Tips on how to overcome disturbing and distracting thoughts:

1. Get enough sleep at night. Some say that one needs 8 hours of sleep, but this is an individual matter, as some people require only 5-6 hours of sleep, and wake up energetic and refreshed.

2. Whenever possible, without avoiding your duties and responsibilities, stay away from what stresses and worries you.

3. Believe that you can change the situation. It is just a matter of dedication, desire, inner work and time.

4. Read the article about concentration at:
www.successconsciousness.com/index_000004.htm,
and then start practicing the first concentration exercise at:
www.successconsciousness.com/index_000005.htm

5. When you can perform the first exercise as required, move to the next exercise.

6. When thoughts disturb or distract your mind, try focusing on what you are doing more attentively. Don’t use force or fight the thoughts, just pay more attention to what you are doing at the moment.  If these thoughts persist, analyze them, see what they are, and acknowledge that they are just thoughts, and there is no reason in the world to be controlled by them. If you can treat them with disinterest and detachment they will go away.

7. Keep positive, and don’t get discouraged if you fail to practice these instructions or if the disturbing and distracting thoughts persist.

A Better Life Starts in the Mind

March 7th, 2009 Remez Sasson Posted in Positive Thinking, mind, negative thinking, success No Comments »

It is difficult to stay positive, when you lose your job and lose your money. At such a time, it is so easy to fall prey to negative thinking and imagining more disasters. Yet, it is at this time that positive thinking becomes so important.

If you let your thoughts become negative, if you feel despair, will this help you in any way? Absolutely not! You may say that the world conditions have changed and you can do nothing about it. You may say you are too old, or too inexperienced to get a new job, and that new jobs are sparse and hard to get. All this might be true, but there have always people who became successful even in difficult times.

You limit yourself by your thoughts, ideas and beliefs. Thoughts can be like shackles, tying you to the ground, and they can be like wings, taking you far away. It is your choice. A better life starts in the mind.

You might not be able to change you circumstances and the world around you, but you can change your inner, mental world. You can choose your thoughts, you can refuse to feel pity for yourself and picture problems and disasters, and you can fill your mind with positive thoughts and mental images.

All changes start in the mind, and you therefore need to change the way you think in order to improve your life. If you keep thinking about your current situation, of having no job and no money, you will get more despondent and unhappy and see more problems, because you focus on them, and do nothing to get out of this situation.

Higher Consciousness Focuses and Silences the Mind

December 2nd, 2008 Remez Sasson Posted in Concentration and Mind Power, concentration, consciousness, mind, silence No Comments »

How is it possible to focus the mind when it is so restless?

When you try to stop thinking, do really stop thinking, or do you just hold to the thought that you are not thinking, which is itself a thought?

Who and what it is that orders the mind to concentrate or get silent?

Can the mind concentrate itself, or is there something higher than the mind that focuses or silences it?

Concentration exercises and meditation eventually awaken something inside, some kind of silent consciousness, and it is this consciousness that focuses the mind on any chosen subject or object, and it is this consciousness that is able to cleanse the mind of thoughts and silence the mind.

This Consciousness-Awareness, Higher Consciousness is the Inner Self, and is beyond and above the mind. It is always here, but sort of hidden behind the thinking mind. There is too much focus on thoughts and sense impressions coming through the five senses, so that this Consciousness, “forgets” itself, and tend to “get involved” with the mind and the impressions coming through five senses. This is what makes it so difficult to focus the mind.

In time, as concentration gets stronger, one is able to cleanse the mind of thoughts, but this takes time and a lot of work. At this point you don’t say to yourself, “I am silencing my mind”, because this is itself a thought. You just stop thinking, but something else is there that stops the thinking. At this stage, when you stop thinking, there is no vacuum or the thought that “you are trying to stop thinking”. There is just Pure Consciousness, joy and inner peace.

From this perspective, concentration becomes simple and easy, and you are able to focus your mind easily on anything, a thought, a point on the wall, a flower, an inspiring quote, prayer, or on your work, studies, reading book or any other activity, or just enjoy being conscious, but without thoughts.

Focusing on Your Actions

November 8th, 2008 Remez Sasson Posted in Concentration and Mind Power, focusing, mind No Comments »

Do you focus your mind on what you are doing, or do you do one thing, but think about something else at the same time?

Do you work, eat, dress up or do anything else, but daydream while doing so?

Do you align your thoughts with your actions, or are they two separate activities?

Doing one thing, while thinking or daydreaming on something else divides your energy, which means less energy and attention are channeled into your actions and thinking. This causes absentmindedness, tiredness, lack of attention and mistakes.

Try this exercise. Next time you have a shower, focus on the act of washing, while dressing up, focus on the act of dressing, and while preparing a meal, focus on what you are doing.

Can you keep your mind on what you are doing, or do you start thinking unrelated thoughts after a short while?

Focusing your thoughts on your actions saves you lot energy, empty mental chatter, mistakes and errors.

Focusing your mind and thoughts on your actions enables you to work and study more efficiently, do fewer mistakes, and perform everything faster and better.

Focusing on your actions is a great way to stop the constant buzz of the mind and enjoy inner peace.

Empower Yourself With Intuition: Five Steps To Develop Your Sixth Sense

October 23rd, 2008 Judith Orloff Posted in Judith Orloff, Meditation, belief, intuition, intuitive healing, intuitive voice, mind, negative attitudes, positive attitudes No Comments »

I am a psychiatrist who specializes in intuition. When patients come to see me, I listen to them with my intellect as well my intuition, a potent form of inner wisdom not mediated by the rational mind. Accessible to all, it’s a still, small voice inside-an unflinching truth-teller committed to our well-being. Sometimes I experience it as a snap-shot-like flash, a gut feeling, a hunch, a physical sensation, a dream. Whatever the form, it is always a friend, keeping a steady eye on our bodies and spirits, letting us know if something is out of sync.

As a psychiatrist I see many people with everything material they can ever want, and still they feel lost. What’s missing is a palpable connection with their intuitive voice, one that will always guide them in an empowered direction. I believe that without this connection, it’s impossible to lead a truly passionate life, based on instinct and authentic inner knowledge. I’ve written Dr. Judith Orloff’s Guide to Intuitive Healing: Five Steps to Physical, Emotional, and Sexual Wellness as a primer on how everyone can develop intuition and utilize it as a powerful tool for living. Intuition is not something I simply teach my patients. It has become a way of life for me. The magic of intuition is that it insists you live in the moment with no expectations, a continuing freshness. Intuition is our birthright, available to everyone. To access it, I’ve developed five steps that can be applied to any issue you’ll ever confront from healing your body, to riding a roller-coaster of emotions to sexual awakening. I live by these five steps I suggest you give them a try. My hope is that they will bring you the joy and clarity you’ve been searching for.

Step 1: Notice Your Beliefs

Your beliefs set the stage for healing. Positive attitudes stimulate growth. Negative attitudes impede it. It’s important to rid yourself of counterproductive attitudes that you may not even realize you have. If you examine your beliefs, choose life-enhancing ones, you’ll create optimal wellness. No organ system stands apart from your thoughts. Your beliefs program your neurochemicals. You must know that you can tune into intuition which can promote your health and healing.

How to Develop Your Psychic Abilities

Step 2: Be In Your Body

Your body provides vital information about intuition. You must make a commitment to listen to what your body says. Ask yourself, “Does my energy go up or down around someone?” Is my gut giving me a “beware signal” or do I feel comfortable around someone?’ Does my gut feel good about a decision? Pay attention to these signs. Most people in Western society are conditioned to live from the neck up, ignoring the rest of their body. This stance is counter-intuitive. I’d like you to shift that perspective become more aware of early warning signs your body sends. This gives you a head-start on preventing illness and pain, warding off panic and choosing healthy relationships.

Step 3: Sense Your Body’s Subtle Energy

We are made up of energy which can be sensed with intuition. Chinese Medical Practitioners call this “chi,” a vital substance which penetrates the body and extends many feet beyond it. From an intuitive point of view, these vibrant energy fields, whose centers are called chakras have a significant effect on our health. For that reason, it is important that we learn to sense this energy within us, recognize when it is off, and learn to correct the imbalance. The best way to start sensing energy is to be aware of the “vibes” people give off. Always grativate to people you’re most comfortable with.

Step 4: Ask for Inner Guidance

We each possess an intuitive voice that contains answers about our healing. Because our intellect is often so loud, this voice often gets drowned out. It’s essential that we learn to access the stillness within–though meditation, quite contemplation, connecting with nature, prayer-in order to gain answers about our health. Spend a few minutes each day devoted to listening to this voice. It may appear as a gut feeling, a hunch, an image, a sound, a memory, an instant knowing-as if a light bulb suddenly switched on. Learn to trust the signals your inner wisdom sends.

Step 5: Listen To Your Dreams

Intuition is the language of dreams. Every ninety minutes each night during the REM stage of sleep, we dream. Dreams provide answers about health, relationships, career choices, any new direction. The secret is to remember them. I suggest keeping a dream journal by your bed. Before you go to sleep, ask a dream a question. For instance, “Is this relationship healthy for me or should I move on?” The next morning, write down any dreams immediately before getting out of bed. Try repeating the question, every night for the next week until your answer comes. As you develop the habit of remembering dreams, you’ll be able to benefit from this form of healing. As a physician, I have a continual sense of awe for the relationship between body and spirit. As your heat opens, so does your intuition. Your intuition will teach you how to see and how to love. It will instill in you a renewed faith to face anything.

The Law of Attraction, Television & You

October 17th, 2008 Richard Blackstone Posted in Law of Attraction, Spiritual Growth, Spirituality, enlightenment, fear, mind, universal law of attraction No Comments »

The law of attraction tells us that you bring into your life that which you put your attention on. The secret to life is to put your attention on what serves you and take your attention away from what does not serve you.

Does your spiritual growth come from the television? Does television spew forth spirituality information? We know it uses religion a lot to send its messages but is that the same as spiritual enlightenment? We often create a habit of watching television no matter what it is that we are watching.

We get into a habit of talking bad about others and ourselves and it just seems normal to us. Our environment seems to encourage us to play a role in life that has nothing to do with who we really are. We get feedback daily from the television that encourages us to make decisions that stifle our thinking and therefore our creativity. Our non-conformity conforms to the marketing plans that bombard us daily.

Hey, here’s a novel idea. Don’t turn on the television. It’s just an idea but think about it. The immutable universal law of attraction tells us that we attract into our life that which we put our attention on.

If you watch three to four or more hours of television a day you are putting a lot of attention on whatever it is that you are watching. If you just did this for one day it wouldn’t affect you much, but if you do this every day and maybe a little more on the weekends, then you can begin to see the cumulative effect that this has on the overall input into what you think.

Let’s just take one aspect of television and examine how it influences our lives. Remember these are just words. These are words that we are receiving through our physical sense of hearing with the addition of a visual context that adds emphasis to the overall message.

We are going to look at the national evening news. It doesn’t matter which network you are tuned to because they all say the same things. Every night we are subjected to the lead story, which is the most sensational story of the day. My dictionary defines sensational as: 1. Arousing intense interests 2. Intended to shock, thrill, etc. (Kind of sounds like a carnival show)

Let’s examine this daily input into our thoughts. The commentator has been carefully selected and programmed to create an image of fairness and trust. We are supposed to trust this fair-minded person who is relaying the news of the world to us in an unbiased way. That is the image that they all project to us.

We are lead to believe that they are doing us a great service by reporting to us the information, that puts into summary form, what has happened that particular day that they feel is important to you. Have they ever asked you what is important to you? Or are they trying to tell you what is important to you?

This is how subtle it is and how easy it is to influence collective thinking. Just the mere fact that you are listening to the news means that you are going to be influenced by the news. You may not have had a thought about being sick but the nightly news report tells you there is a national epidemic of the flu going around and, all of a sudden, you begin to wonder if you are going to get the flu. You feel fine but you now have a thought in your head that you might get the flu.

They take a commercial break and the first advertisement is for flu medicine. You didn’t have a thought in your head about being sick just five minutes ago but now you are thinking to yourself that you should probably get some flu medicine tomorrow. You are susceptible to the flu, the nightly news just told you the flu bug is going around and you were fortunate enough to see an advertisement for flu medicine.

The next morning you wake up with a sniffle. You tell yourself, via your thoughts, that you are getting the flu. You go to work and tell a co-worker that you have the flu and will probably miss work in a few days because that is how the flu works on you. Lo and behold, you develop more flu-like symptoms and you become so sick that you can’t go to work for a couple of days.

That’s how subtle it is and that’s how powerful our thoughts and words are. The flu example is bad enough but we are being fed much more sensational news than the flu bug. We are being fed huge doses of fear daily. Morning, noon, and night we are being told, via words on the news that we must live in fear of just about everything that is happening in the world.

We are told to fear the weather, fear earthquakes, fear the flu, fear the poor, fear our enemies, fear our school systems, fear foreigners, fear our food, fear children who commit crimes, fear the environmentalists, fear just about everything. This is the “news” that we subject ourselves to daily.

Now, I am not saying if this is right or wrong. I am only saying that in my observation this is what is so.

One final observation. I will let you answer this yourself since you are the only one who really matters here. Do you believe that the television news is based mostly in fear or in love? What is your answer?

Here’s the kicker question. “Does that serve you?”

Bible Scriptures Mirror Prosperity

September 15th, 2008 Janie Baer Posted in God, Meditation, Spirituality, abundance, bible scripture, bible scriptures, financial prosperity, mind, prosperity No Comments »

I want to start off with this Bible scripture: James 1:22-25 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: 24 For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was. 25 But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed. KJV

This Bible scripture shows us that bible scriptures are mirrors we need to be looking into every day and then we will see ourselves in this new life in Christ Jesus. We look differently in these Bible scripture mirrors then sometimes circumstances in our lives; because they reflect a whole new realm, the Kingdom of God, we are living in or should live in and out of as Christians.

Bible scripture prosperity manifests in our lives as we continue to look, not forgetting what Bible scriptures show us. That continual observing of the reflection of Bible scriptures will bring the revelation to our minds and then comes manifestation for all others to see. That is the power of the Word of God. First we have revelation and then we have manifestation. That is why the importance of meditation of Bible scriptures day and night as Joshua 1:8 tells us.

Josh 1:8 This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, that you may observe and do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall deal wisely and have good success. AMP

So let’s get started on looking into some Bible scriptures that will show us in the prosperity of God.

3 John 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. KJV

Did you notice Father God wished above “all things” that we prosper first of all? This is speaking of financial prosperity. Father still wishes that you prospered above all things today.

2 Cor 8:9 For you are becoming progressively acquainted with and recognizing more strongly and clearly the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ (His kindness, His gracious generosity, His undeserved favor and spiritual blessing), [in] that though He was [so very] rich, yet for your sakes He became [so very] poor, in order that by His poverty you might become enriched (abundantly supplied). AMP

This scripture is all about financial matters and not spiritual matters. Looking into this Bible scripture, we see Jesus became so very poor coming to this earth from a lavish Heaven so that we could financially become enriched abundantly supplied. So keep looking into this mirror and see yourself becoming enriched abundantly supplied then at the time when Jesus left Heaven for your prosperity.

2 Cor 9:6-11 [Remember] this: he who sows sparingly and grudgingly will also reap sparingly and grudgingly, and he who sows generously [that blessings may come to someone] will also reap generously and with blessings. 7 Let each one [give] as he has made up his own mind and purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or sorrowfully or under compulsion, for God loves (He takes pleasure in, prizes above other things, and is unwilling to abandon or to do without) a cheerful (joyous, “prompt to do it”) giver [whose heart is in his giving]. 8 And God is able to make all grace (every favor and earthly blessing) come to you in abundance, so that you may always and under all circumstances and whatever the need be self-sufficient [possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation].

9 As it is written, He [the benevolent person] scatters abroad; He gives to the poor; His deeds of justice and goodness and kindness and benevolence will go on and endure forever! 10 And [God] Who provides seed for the sower and bread for eating will also provide and multiply your [resources for] sowing and increase the fruits of your righteousness [which manifests itself in active goodness, kindness, and charity]. 11 Thus you will be enriched in all things and in every way, so that you can be generous, and [your generosity as it is] administered by us will bring forth thanksgiving to God. AMP

This is how the Kingdom of God operates, seed time and harvest. This allows the abundance of God’s grace to cause us to experience every favor and earthly blessing, possess enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance to continue to be a giver. Do you see yourself in the mirror of this Bible scripture? If not, then keep looking.

Gal 3:13-14,29 Christ purchased our freedom [redeeming us] from the curse (doom) of the Law [and its condemnation] by [Himself] becoming a curse for us, for it is written [in the Scriptures], Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree (is crucified); 14 To the end that through [their receiving] Christ Jesus, the blessing [promised] to Abraham might come upon the Gentiles, so that we through faith might [all] receive [the realization of] the promise of the [Holy] Spirit. 29 And if you belong to Christ [are in Him Who is Abraham's Seed], then you are Abraham’s offspring and [spiritual] heirs according to promise. AMP

July 4th of every year the United States of America celebrates its independence from her mother nation. As Christians, we need to continue to look into this mirror of Galatians 3:13 and others that reflect back to us our independence from the law and from the curse of the law because of Jesus fulfilling that law of Moses and taking the curse of the law for our independence.

It might be good for you to go back and look at Deuteronomy 28 where the blessing that came by keeping the law and the curse coming from not doing the law are listed. Don’t pay any attention to the curse other than to give thanks to Jesus for fulfilling all of this Law of Moses so that you could experience through Him the blessings. Then your time, meditating on the blessing and see a reflection of yourself walking and living in the blessing. It will come upon you and over take you is the promise. I like to be overtaken by the blessing, don’t you?

Now that we are in Christ Jesus, Bible scriptures will reflect back to us being in the blessing of Abraham. We have the spiritual blessing of Jesus Christ and we have the financial blessing of Abraham.

This last Bible scripture mirrors us in prosperity provided for by Heaven’s blessings.

Eph 1:3 May blessing (praise, laudation, and eulogy) be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) Who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual (given by the Holy Spirit) blessing in the heavenly realm! AMP

We must not be waiting on our financial prosperity any more. Every spiritual blessing contains your material blessing. All material things came out of spiritual substance. The spiritual blessing of your new birth was waiting on you just to receive it. Your financial blessing is waiting on you to see yourself in it and take it.

Let’s make this confession looking into the mirror of these Bible scriptures of prosperity:

I see from these Bible scriptures, I am blessed because I have the blessing of God and the blessing of Abraham, my Father of faith. I have received the spiritual blessings by Jesus and I have received financial blessings by Abraham. I will continue to look into these Bible scriptures, my mirror, reflecting back to me who I am in Christ Jesus, and I will not forget what I see. As a result of this I will be blessed in all I do.

My Father God wishes above every thing else in the earth that I prosper in my finances. My mind is prospering as I continue to look into the mirror of Bible prosperity scriptures. I therefore identify with Jesus’ sacrifice, leaving lavish Heaven and becoming so very poor so that I now am abundantly supplied in my finances. This is just part of my salvation that Jesus provided for me.

I will continue to remember the operation of the Kingdom of God’s financial increase comes by my generous giving. I do not give out of law but my giving will be as a result of a heart’s desire, being prompt, joyous and cheerful. Then I am expecting the results of the Kingdom of God’s guarantee of my Father’s grace and favor bringing earthly blessings to me in abundance. Then in all circumstances, I am assured I will be prospering so that I do not have to get any kind of aid or support, no kind of debt; but I am giving continually out of my abundance to every good work and needs of others. Then Father God provides more seed for me to sow and I get greater harvests. In the process Father provides my every need, and I continue to be generous and this brings thanksgiving to my Father.

Christ Jesus has purchased my freedom from the curse of the Law of Moses by fulfilling the law for me. In this liberty I am experiencing the blessing of Abraham. I also receive the manifestation of financial blessings that come from every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realm through Christ Jesus.

These Bible scriptures bring liberty to me in my finances so I continue looking into them, seeing and experiencing the reality of them in my life.

The Power of Mental Images

August 23rd, 2008 Remez Sasson Posted in Law of Attraction, mental images, mind, visualization No Comments »

Mental ImagesWhat is a mental image? It is mental picture, scene or event that you see in your mind. You construct mental images in your mind all the time, albeit unconsciously. The mental images that you often visualize affect your life, whether you are aware of this or not. I am not talking mental images that you visualize once or twice, but about the mental images that you often repeat in your mind.

Mental images have the power to change your life. The subconscious mind accepts these images as reality, and gradually you start to believe what you imagine, act accordingly, and unconsciously work toward making them a reality in your life. This is the secret of the law of attraction creative visualization.

Mental images, if repeated often can make great changes in your life. If you visualize negative situations, difficulties and problem, and continue doing so, your moods will gradually become negative, you will alienate people, you will close your eyes to opportunities, and your self-esteem will go down. How can you achieve success if you are so negative?

On the other hand, successful people attract success, because they constantly imagine and expect success.

Mental images are like a movie or still pictures that you see in your mind. If you watch them again and again your subconscious mind will ultimately accept them as you reality. They will affect your thinking, behavior and world.

What is Meditation?

August 16th, 2008 Remez Sasson Posted in Meditation, mind, what is meditation No Comments »

If you ask people what is meditation, you will probably get different answers, such as:

Closing the Doors of the Mind

August 9th, 2008 Remez Sasson Posted in inner peace, mind, thoughts No Comments »

If your mind is like a house with wide open windows and doors, with nothing to sort or filter out what comes in, all thoughts are free to enter, dwell there and disturb and affect your mind and life. In this situation there is lack of control over your mental house and over what goes inside it.

Under these conditions the mind allows free access to thoughts, ideas, words and suggestions coming from the outside, from people, the media or from other sources.

For most people, this is the natural state of affairs. However, some seek a way to close the doors and windows of your mind and prevent unnecessary, useless or negative thoughts from occupying their mind and robbing their time and energy.

Someone, who has the key to the doors and windows of his mind, can prevent unnecessary thoughts and worries from occupying his mind. Such a person can choose to think or stop thinking at will. Such a person can enjoy inner peace and be in a state free from worries and anxieties.

Tips to Improve Concentration

June 27th, 2008 Remez Sasson Posted in Concentration and Mind Power, attention, concentration, mind No Comments »

Paying attention to what you are doing is one of the most important keys to success. If you are not able to hold your attention on one thing for some time, how can you accomplish anything?

Successful people are able to focus their mind on their goals day and night, until they accomplish them, be it money, fame, power, self-improvement or meditation. How can you improve your ability to focus your mind on your goals, when there are so many things that distract your attention?

Napoleon Hill said the following words about attention:

“Controlled attention is the act of coordinating all the faculties of the mind and directing their combined power to a given end. It is an act, which can be achieved only by the strictest sort of self-discipline.”

“Learn to fix your attention on a given subject, at will, for whatever length of time you choose. You will have learned the secret to power and plenty! This is concentration.”

“Keep your mind on the things you want and off the things you don’t want!”

This is good advice for anyone one wishes to learn how to improve the concentration and attention.

The Mental Noise

June 17th, 2008 Remez Sasson Posted in Meditation, concentration, inner peace, mental noise, mind No Comments »

The mental noise is an activity of the mind that almost everyone experiences day and night, and which most people consider as a natural activity of the mind. Though it goes on all the time as a background noise, you usually become aware of it in an acute form, when there is a problem, worry or fear, and you find your mind thinking and thinking about it, until you feel your mind is about to explode from thinking.

The mental noise manifests as inner conversation, inner monologue and as a tendency to constantly think, analyze, compare and repeat thoughts in the mind. It is an involuntary activity, which prevents you from focusing the mind and concentrating on what you are doing. It causes distraction, never being in the present moment, and it wastes a lot of time and mental energy, which could have been use for better purposes.

Some, will not agree with me, and say that constant thinking is a sign of being alive and active, and that they prefer to be constantly thinking. They feel that life would be boring and lifeless without the constantly thinking. This is because they have never experienced any other state of consciousness, and constant thinking seems to them to be the natural state of consciousness.

When you are able to reduce the mental noise your five sense will function better, your ability to concentrate would grow and you will feel more calm and in control of yourself. You don’t lose anything in this process, but only gain a lot.

I have written two articles on the mental noise:

1. The Mental Noise

Mental noise is the constant chatter of the mind that never stops. It is the inner conversation or inner monologue that constantly goes on in the mind.

Many are unaware of this mental noise, because it has become a deeply embedded habit, and is considered as a natural and inseparable part of life.

This mental noise is like a background noise that never ceases, from the moment of waking up in the morning, to the moment of falling asleep at night. Often, it even prevents you from falling asleep. It is a sort of inner voice that constantly analyzes everything about our lives, surroundings and the people we know. It is a voice in the head that just keeps talking and talking!

The mind often repeats the same thought over and over again, like in a loop or like a record that got stuck. If this is a positive thought that’s fine, but too often this a negative thought or a negative mental images that just intensify stress, worry, anger or frustration. These are thoughts that you absolutely do not need.

2. How to Calm Down the Mental Noise

After reading the article on the mental noise, it is time to start doing something about it. As you now know, the mental noise is the inner dialogue and constant chatter that goes on in the mind almost all the time. Sometimes we are not aware of it, and at other times it is most disturbing and distracting the attention.

When do you become more aware of the mental noise and find it disturbing?
When you need to focus your mind on a certain activity, such as studying, reading, solving problems or anything else. At this time you become more aware of the buzz and constant flow of irrelevant, and often useless or distracting thoughts. This is the mental noise.

Distracting Thoughts, Attention and Concentration

May 23rd, 2008 Remez Sasson Posted in Concentration and Mind Power, attention, concentration, distracting thoughts, mind No Comments »

I have been recently asked how to proceed when one is distracted by thoughts. The questioner asked, referring to the exercises at: www.successconsciousness.com/index_000005.htm

When doing the concentration exercise number 1, which is counting words in a book, I always keep on counting, and if a negative thought comes, I ignore it and keep on counting. Is it ok to do the exercise this way, or do I need to start from the beginning?

Here is what I replied:

If you are able to ignore the distracting thoughts and keep your attention on the counting, that’s okay.

If you are not able to resist the distracting thoughts, follow them, and then after a while catch yourself thinking about something else, then you will have to stop the exercise and start from the beginning.

Resisting the distractions and continuing the exercise without loss of attention is different from forgetting the exercise and thinking on something else.

Thoughts always try to distract the attention, but if the will and desire are strong, and the attention is strong, the concentration will continue, in spite of some thoughts at the background. If the will, desire and attention are not strong enough, you will most probably forget to concentrate, and become aware that your mind has drifted away, only some time later. This might be after several seconds or even several minutes. In this case the distracting thoughts become the main focus, and you will need to start the exercises from the beginning.

It is like working out with weights. If you lift the barbells and do the exercise, in spite of the difficulty, you are strengthening your muscles. However, if you stop the exercise, do something else, and then again try to lift the barbells a few moments, only to give up again, you are not doing anything. So it is with concentration exercises. Not giving up and continuing without loss of attention, in spite of the attempts of the mind to distract the attention, will result in strengthening the concentration.

The Mind is Like a Magnet

April 22nd, 2008 Remez Sasson Posted in Law of Attraction, magnet, mind No Comments »

You attract into your life what you think about frequently. Most of the thoughts are weak and are not repeated long enough to gain sufficient strength. Weak thoughts, like a weak magnet, hardly have any attractive power.

You have seen how a magnet draws metal objects. A strong and big magnet draws bigger objects, than a small and weak one. Magnets have another peculiar characteristic. One side of the magnet draws, and the other side repels.

A magnet draws toward itself everything made of iron, no matter whether it is a useful object or junk. The mind acts in the same way. It attracts into your life positive and negative situations and events, according to the thoughts that you think. The law of attraction is neutral; it can attract positive or negative situations, according to your predominant thoughts.

Like the magnet, the mind not only attracts, but it also repels. If you doubt your ability to attract a certain object, person or situation into your life, then you repel it with this attitude. Thoughts of incompetence, weakness, fear and inferiority create a repellent force. It is as if you are creating a wind that blows away and prevents certain things to reach you.

This means that you need have no doubts, be full of faith in your abilities, and have a strong desire, in order to make your mind behave like a magnet and create the life you desire.
