The Secret of Having Everything You Want

Everyone wonders whether or not there is one great secret for truly successful living. There is. And it is not a secret. It has been quietly, steadily telling itself right in front of us all along. We just couldn’t hear it over the clatter and chatter of our own secret demands. Listen quietly for a moment. Everything can change right now. Learning to hear this supreme secret is no more difficult than choosing whether to swim against a current or to let it carry you safely to the shore. Let it speak its wisdom to that secret part of you that can not only hear what it is saying but that is, in reality, its very voice. Listen to it now. It is saying, “Want What Life Wants.” Think about it. Locked within these four simple words is the secret of an uncompromising power for effortless living; a new kind of power that never fails to place you on the winning side of any situation. Why? Because when you want what Life wants, your wish is for Life itself.

“What if I don’t like what life brings to me?”

“Try to see that it is not what life has brought to you that you don’t like. It is your reactions that turn the gift of life into the resentment of it.”

“I don’t want to sound ungrateful, but speaking plainly, I’m tired of being unhappy. What difference does it make why I feel this way?”

“Because these unhappy feelings are born out of life failing to conform to your ideas of what you need to be happy. This shows you, if you will see it, that Life itself isn’t denying you happiness. It is your ideas about life that have failed you. Give up these wrong ideas instead of giving up on life. Be increasingly willing to see they are nothing but a constant source of conflict. Your false nature will tell you that you must have these self-protecting ideas; that you can’t live without them or you will lose something valuable. What you must do, in spite of any such protest to the contrary, is to see that you can’t live with them. All you will lose is your unhappiness.”

Here are two lists that will not only make these life-healing ideas more personal for you, but they will help you to help yourself make a higher choice when it comes to what you really want from life. It would be valuable to study then compare the lists to each other. You may wish to add to either list some of your own insights, which I highly encourage you to do.

Let’s look at what happens “When You Want What You Want”:

1. You are often nervous and anxious because life may not cooperate with your plans.

2. You are willing to sacrifice whatever it takes to get what you want, and this may include your integrity.

3. You are usually scheming in some way to win your next victory.

4. You are either in a battle or recovering from one.

5. You are unable to rest quietly when you need to.

6. You are easily angered when someone or something gets in your way.

7. You are forever driven to want something else.

8. You are against anyone else who also wants what you want.

9. You are certain that what you have is who you are.

10. You are always trying to convince yourself that you got what you want.

Now carefully consider the following. “When You Want What Life Wants”:

1. You are never disappointed with what happens.

2. You are always in the right place at the right time.

3. You are quietly confident no matter what the circumstances.

4. You are out of the reach of anger and anxiety.

5. You are awake and sensitive to your surroundings.

6. You are free of ever feeling as though you’ve missed out.

7. You are never thrown for a loss.

8. You are in total command of events.

9. You are mentally quiet.

10. You are eternally grateful.

“Is there a simple guideline to follow when it comes to distinguishing between what Life wants and what I want? How can I easily tell which is which?”

“Always remember the following. If any want is the source of anxiety or sorrow, that want is yours and not Life’s. If the want has pain, it is in vain. To let real Life flood in, pull yourself out of the flood of self-wants that promise a future pleasure but only deliver a present pain.”

“How do I pull myself out of the flood of my own wants?”

“See that you are being washed away by them and you will grow tired of being bounced along. Here is a key. Never accept the presence of any mental or emotional suffering as necessary, no matter how much importance these impostors lend to a particularly pressing want. By refusing their dark presence, you make space for the present moment to give you its indefinable presence. This is where the Life that you want — and that wants you — is waiting.”

“All of what you have said makes good sense. To tell the truth, I would like to let go and let Life lead, but I’m afraid. What will happen to me if I give up my demands? Won’t I lose control of my life?”

“You cannot lose control of something you never had control over in the first place. No human being controls life — his or hers or anyone else’s. If it weren’t for higher cosmic energies coming down, filling and animating your body right now, you couldn’t be holding this book in your hands or reading its words. If you want to measure the level of an individual’s stress, measure his insistence that life does as he wants. The only thing you will lose by learning to want what life wants is your fear of not being in control — which was never real control in the first place but only the sensation of it born out of living with its painful opposite.”

Here is the most important point of all. No human being needs control over life because, in reality, no one is apart from it. Who you really are, your True Nature, is not separate from life.

Let Life bring you itself. Welcome it. At each instant, it is new, full — untouched and undiminished by any moment before it. To enter into this full relationship with Life is to give yourself to your Self. Fulfilling the true purpose of Life is fulfilling yourself. Here are five special key lessons to help you want what Life wants.

1. Nothing can be released and resisted at the same time, which means that any attempt to reject some weakness detected in us is the same as protecting it.

2. True nobility is not a question of birth right or social rank; it is the native estate of each soul that, upon awakening to its divine inheritance, knows the strength of these twin truths without having to think about them: justice and mercy are one, as are love and fearlessness.

3. Nothing judges you; it is what you love — and that love alone — that either persecutes you, or stands by you in your hour of need.

4. Whoever serves what he or she fears has failed to see that all they win for their service is to become more fearful.

5. We can spend our time struggling, in vain, to make others into what we want them to be, or we can see the inherent flaw in thinking this way and — rather than trying to change others to suit our needs — see through the false idea that someone else is responsible for our fulfillment.

Getting to Know Your Higher Self -Why Does That Matter in Life?

February 19th, 2009 Guest Author Posted in Life, Robert Paisola, consciousness, ego, goals, happy list, higher self, motivational, passion, professional life, success No Comments »

What is it that makes us human? Speech, consciousness, opposable thumbs? Yes, all that. But what also makes us human is the belief in a Higher Self. The Higher Self inhabits a spiritual dimension beyond the material plane.

This Higher Self’s quest is not necessarily antithetical to the quest for success in the material world. Some of the most successful people share an elevated consciousness. Whether this is the reason for or the consequence of their success depends on the person.

Being in touch with our higher selves gives us the ability to commune with the sublime. Do not be a stranger to your Higher Self. Give your Higher Self a name and seek out his/her advice. Don’t let your ego block this powerful technique for accessing inspired visions. Give your Higher Self a chance to speak, and you may get the answers to your most perplexing problems.

Somewhere inside yourself is the true you—the part that represents what you want most, the part that is your inner hero.

Try this exercise: write your own version of “How to Be Happy.” List the things that you have learned in your personal and professional life. What you will come up with is a list of values and goals.

After the writing exercise, take some time to visualize your Higher Self. Imagine stepping outside of your physical body and taking a look at the real you. See your Higher Self.

The Higher Self can speak to you through your physical body. You’re upset, and you feel nauseous. You are tired, so you want to sleep. If your heart beats in fear or your knees shake, or you have recurrent dreams or nightmares, the self may be trying to talk to you! The self may be telling you that the emotional air you are breathing is toxic. It’s time to take action!

The Higher Self whispers while the ego SHOUTS. The more busy-work, chatter, or other meaningless distractions interfere with your ability to hear the internal message, the harder it will be to make the choices that lead to a oneness with your Higher Self.

Spirituality Information: The Case for Knowing Who You Really Are

July 21st, 2008 Richard Blackstone Posted in Spiritual Growth, Spirituality, abundance, albert einstein, creation of the universe, ego, feelings, health and harmony, intention, origin of the universe No Comments »

Your spiritual growth requires you to continually ask the question, “Who am I?” The spirituality information you obtain from this question will guide you to abundance, health and harmony.

This article deals with many esoteric aspects of the origin of the universe, so it is important that you are open and receptive to the information you are about to receive. I would like you to open your mind and open your heart before we explore these ideas and concepts.

I am going to ask you to suspend any judgments or preconceived notions you may have about the origins of the universe and just listen to the words and the ideas. Please don’t put any labels on these concepts or classify the ideas into categories. When you label or classify an idea you are limiting your perspective, and with a limited perspective you can’t see the whole picture.

We are looking for a broad picture here. We want to develop a picture that can be seen from all perspectives. This is the only way to see the truth of an idea. If you can view an idea from an unlimited number of perspectives and they all tell you the same story, then you are surrounding the idea with truth.

That is our intention. We, you and I, are going to co-create this experience of really seeing ourselves, perhaps for the first time, from a much larger perspective than we ever have before. This larger, all-encompassing perspective is going to open ourselves to the symmetry of this huge creation of the universe in a way that allows us to see our own lives with more clarity and understanding of our larger purpose.

Albert Einstein understood this concept of nonjudgmental thinking. He said “You can’t get any revolutionary ideas from using the same thoughts you have been thinking. You must change the way you are thinking and think different thoughts.”

Sometimes you have to be “out of your mind” or, at the very least, “out of your comfort zone” to truly evolve and change the way you expect your future to be.

So as we explore these ideas and concepts concerning why the universe was created in the first place and then, what our purpose is in that creation, it will be necessary to use all of our senses. Not just our physical senses but also our nonphysical senses. Please allow your nonphysical senses of intuition, altruism and feelings guide you as we begin our journey.

Even though I have asked you not to use labels as you interpret this material I am going to say that this information is “supremely important” in the ultimate understanding of who you really are.

It is in the knowing of who you really are that you will be able to liberate yourself from your own fears.

It is in the knowing of who you really are that you can throw off any limitations that you have placed on yourself and begin to live a life without limits.

It is in the knowing of who you really are that you can bring yourself into balance in the mind, body and spirit.

It is in the knowing of who you really are that you will actually incorporate the concept of unconditional love into your life.

It is in the knowing of who you really are that you will begin to create your life as you intend it to be.

It is in the knowing of who you really are that you will experience the utter magnificence of yourself.

It is in the knowing of who you really are that you can begin to understand what true freedom really is.

If this sounds (physical sense) or better yet feels (nonphysical sense) like the truth to you, then you have opened your mind and your heart as I requested at the beginning of this article. This frees you to receive information without judgment. This is critical because there is information out there that is going to make all the rest of your life make sense.

The Universe & You

May 2nd, 2008 Joann Posted in God, Manifesting, cosmic consciousness, ego, energy flow, flowing, freedom, love, nature of the universe, power source, soul No Comments »

The universe I am referring to here is the entire cosmos — the entire cosmic consciousness. The vast realm of interconnected powerfully pulsating energy of everything that is good, bountiful, & beautiful. You may call it God or the universal love. I believe in the pureness & the power of love. I believe that this energy embodies everything that is good & beautiful.

As you are one with this consciousness of good, bountiful & beautiful, so is your life. You have everything that is good, your life is bountiful & you have everything that is beautiful. In short, you are loved & you are love.

This interconnected consciousness is a source of power that never runs out. It is everlasting & it is consistent. It does not discriminate, it just IS. Just learn to accept & embrace your connection to the power source. Acknowledge that you are loved day in & day out 24×7x365 1/4 days!

It is also the nature of the universe to FLOW. In case you haven’t noticed we are always moving forward. A day turns into night, the sun rises, & sets and it’s a brand new day. Since we are one with it, our nature too is to flow — improvement, progress, moving forward & being free. It is against our very nature to be stuck in the past or be unable to live the life we are meant to live. We hinder our own progress by willingly constricting the flow of energy in our lives. If we choose not to move forward, the energy that accumulates in us is that of the past which maybe hurtful or negative.

The book Manifesting Your Heart’s Desire cited a story about a girl who was watering the garden with a hose. The flow of the water suddenly stopped so she complained to her father. The father said, “Don’t step on the hose.” So is our energy flow. We are deliberately stepping on our energy line if we continually live with the EGO rather than our SOUL.

A New Earth – Week 3: The Core of Ego

March 18th, 2008 Edward Mills Posted in Personal Growth, a new earth, attachment, consciousness, eckhart tolle, ego, oprah, possessions No Comments »

A New Earth - Oprah and Eckhart TolleHave you been following along with the reading and webcasts from the Oprah and Eckhart Tolle webinar on A New Earth? I just got the latest stats on this ground-breaking event:

  • 826,000 people are registered.
  • There have been over 4.5 million streams/downloads of the webcasts.
  • People from 130 countries are participating.

If you missed last night’s webcast or any of the previous webcasts, you can download the video, audio or transcript of all the shows at the A New Earth download page.

The Core of Ego and Law of Attraction

This week the focus is on The Core of Ego. If you’re a Law of Attraction practitioner, I’m sure you saw the connection between the some of the concepts in this chapter and some of the lessons from Law of Attraction!

Eckhart describes how one of the ego’s favorite activity is complaining. From Law of Attraction, we know that complaining is is a form of focusing our attention on what we don’t want. As long as we continue to complain about what is “wrong” in our lives (ego) it is difficult to get more of what we want in our lives.

Why do you complain? (We all do!) Are there certain areas of your life that you find yourself complaining about more than others? Why?

Tolle suggests that merely becoming aware of the ego limits its ability to direct our thoughts and actions. Have you found this to be true? And if so, what steps will you take to become aware of your ego?

Truth: Relative or Absolute

Another key point in this chapter focused on Truth and how we use truth both as individuals and as groups to maintain our sense of superiority. Tolle writes this about Truth and religions:

All religions are equally false and equally true, depending on how you use them. You can use them in service of the ego, or you can use them in service of the Truth. If you believe only your religion is the Truth, you are using it in the service of the ego. Used in such a way, religion becomes ideology and creates an illusory sense of superiority as well as division and conflict between people. In the service of Truth, religious teachings represent signposts or maps left behind by awakened humans to assist you in spiritual awakening.

All of us have moments in our lives when we are in service of ego and times when we are in service of the truth. How do you know the difference? What do you feel when you catch yourself serving ego? What do you feel when you recognize that you are serving the Truth? And what steps can you take, in the moment when you catch yourself serving ego, to begin making the shift back to Truth?

Other Thoughts/Questions:

  • Does a gradual path really take us to the place of being free and joyous? Or must we have the sudden awakening AKA the AHA Moment?
  • What is your definition of inner peace?
  • What are some experience that you want to share this week?

Week 3 Quotes (Flower Petals):

Your greatest protection is being conscious.

Whatever you fight, you strengthen and what you resist persists.

A New Earth – Week 2: Ego

March 11th, 2008 Edward Mills Posted in Books, Personal Growth, a new earth, attachment, consciousness, eckhart tolle, ego, life hacks, oprah, possessions No Comments »

A New Earth - Oprah and Eckhart Tolle
In week 2 of the Oprah, Eckhart Tolle webinar on A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life Purpose, we begin an exploration of ego. Let’s use this space to continue to explore this concept.

What does ego mean to you?

How did Tolle’s explanation of ego in the book and/or webinar deepen or shift your understanding of the concept?

Identifying with objects

In the book, Tolle tells the story of a dying woman who accused one of her caregivers of stealing her diamond ring. Tolle describes the anger this woman experienced because of the loss of this “valuable” object. He went on to share that:

“In the last few weeks of her life, as her body became weaker, she became more and more radiate, as if light were shining through her. She gave many of her possessions away, some to the woman she thought had stolen the ring, and with each thing she gave away, her joy deepened.”

What objects do you identify with?

Look around your home or office and ask yourself “how many of the things I see do I describe as ‘mine?’”

How would it feel to give these things away?

Can you imagine being in a state where giving away these possessions would bring deeper joy?

What is in the way of that happening now?

Your Week 2 Flower Petals:

In the workbook for the webinar we are being asked to pick our two favorite passages or quotes from the book. At the end of the 10-weeks, we will have a beautiful flower whose petals inspire us to continue the process of awakening.

What are your petals from week 2?

Here are mine.

When you don’t cover up the world with words and labels, a sense of the miraculous returns to your life.

Yielding means inner acceptance of what is. You are open to life. Resistance is an inner contraction, a hardening of the ego. You are closed. Whatever action you take in a state of inner resistance (which we could also call negativity) will create more outer resistance, and the universe will not be on your side; life will not be helpful. If the shutters are closed, the sunlight cannot come in. When you yield internally, when you surrender, a new dimension of consciousness opens up. If action is possible or necessary, your action will be in alignment with the whole and supported by creative intelligence.

Use the comments space below to leave your quotes, answers to the questions above, or any thoughts, observations or further questions you might have.
