Earth Day, A New Earth, And Energetics

My daughter and I had a great day at our local Earth Day festival on Sunday. Compostable balloons from Whole Foods, Seed Balls from a local summer camp, some great music and our awesome Sunday farmer’s market combined for an awesome celebration. In the afternoon I planted some salad greens, sunflowers (volunteers from the compost pile) and more broccoli in our garden.

I love days like that and I embrace the belief that “every day is Earth day!” It’s not always easy to act in ways that feel nurturing to the Earth. But by staying conscious about our relationship to this planet, our home, we can begin to live and act as if today and every day is Earth Day.

There was a beautiful coincidence - if you believe in such things - in the timing of this week’s A New Earth webcast with Eckhart Tolle and Oprah. This week’s discussion focused on the discovery and exploration of Inner Space and the stillness you find there.

This is what Tolle writes about Stillness:

Stillness is really another word for space. … You are never more essentially, more deeply, yourself than when you are still. When you are still, you are who you were before you temporarily assumed this physical and mental form called a person. You are also who you will be when the form dissolves. When you are still, you are who you are beyond your temporal existence: consciousness—unconditioned, formless, eternal.

A New Earth - Oprah and Eckhart TolleIt is through stillness that we can truly connect with the Earth. It is from our Inner Space that we can see the Earth not as an object but as a Being. From within the Stillness we can connect and communicate with and learn from the Earth.

The Earth is an amazing teacher! She has taught me much about the Law of Attraction. The Earth is the ultimate Deliberate Creator.

One of the reasons that many people struggle to attract their desires is because they focus on sending their intentions “out” to the Universe. In order to attract things in the physical world it is equally important to send those intentions “down” into the physical Earth. The Earth provides the medium within which your desires will become “real.”

The ability to ground our desires into the Earth was one of the tools we explored in the free Energetics of Attraction teleclass last week. If you missed it you can access the recording on the Energetics of Attraction Resource Page.

You’ll also get access to the free report on the Harmonics of Human Awareness. I agree with what Eckhart says in the quote below. When you are detached, or I prefer to call it fully present on all levels of perception, not locked in at one level of awareness, you experience and enjoy life more fully!

Being detached does not mean that you cannot enjoy the good that the world has to offer. In fact, you enjoy it more. … When you are detached, you gain a higher vantage point from which to view the events in your life instead of being trapped inside them. You become like an astronaut who sees the planet Earth surrounded by the vastness of space and realizes a paradoxical truth: The earth is precious and at the same time insignificant.

What steps will you take today to explore your Inner Space, honor the Earth and fully enjoy all the good this world and this life has to offer?

Personal Growth Resource Roundup #15

March 29th, 2008 Edward Mills Posted in Link Love, Personal Growth, Resources, blogging, blogs, eckhart tolle, life hacks, money, oprah No Comments »

personal growth resourcesWelcome to another installment of the Personal Growth Resource Roundup. As you may already know, in these roundups I bring you personal growth resources from unexpected and sometimes surprising sources. I believe that there are life lessons everywhere. So, while I do include great resources from more “traditional” personal growth sources, the focus is on getting us outside of that box. Here are this week’s resources!

Let’s begin with one last reminder about Earth Hour. It’s tonight! The movement has definitely picked up some steam since the first time I wrote about it and even since last week’s personal growth resource roundup. Apparently it’s grown so much that their site is being very slow! If you haven’t watched the video yet, and their site is slow or not responding, you can watch the Earth Hour Video here. And then tonight, in just over 12 hours, at 8:00pm, turn off your lights for 1-hour, Earth Hour! Let’s see the difference we can make when we all turn our lights off!

What will you do during that hour without lights? I’ll be putting Ella to bed. And once she’s asleep I’ll probably play the piano softly by candlelight. Hmm. Sounds like something I might start doing more often!

Leave a comment and let me know what you’re going to do.

Next up is a reminder that Part 1 of my free report - The Energetics of Attraction: Understanding and Applying the Harmonics of Human Awareness is available.

Part One, which is available now, begins with an exploration of why the Law of Attraction may not be “working” and then moves into the five levels of human perception, awareness and response.

Part Two, which will be available soon, will cover the following topics:

* Recognizing your primary perceptual level.
* The role of the subconscious in the Law of Attraction.
* Understanding the Harmonics of Human Awareness.
* Using the Harmonics of Human Awareness to empower your work with the Law of Attraction.

Just fill in your name and email below and you can download the free report now!

Now let’s move on to Problogger! And just what, you might say, does Darren Rowse and Problogger have to do with personal growth? Well, even as far back as February of 2007 I was wondering if Darren was going Personal Developmenty on us!

Personally, I think that one of the reasons why Problogger is so successful is because Darren has infused it with a positive energy that encompasses much more than blogging. And while he probably would not say this, I feel that the underlying message of Problogger is that if you want to be a better blogger, become a better person. Now, maybe I’m reading too much into what’s happening between the lines… or maybe not.

But either way, this guest post, by Easton Ellsworth, on The Greatest Blogging Skill, most certainly qualifies as a personal growth post, even though it uses blogging as a vehicle to express it.

And while we’re on the subject of blogging, let’s talk about SOBCon-08! Oh how I would love to be there! You can just tell, from the buzz, from the energy, and from the amazing people who go to SOBCon that it’s one of those business events that will inspire you to become a better blogger by becoming a better person. It’s not looking like I’m going to get there this year. But if you have that weekend open, and want to get some great information and connect with some amazing people, I definitely recommend it!

And speaking of the amazing people you’ll get to meet at SOBCon, Wendy Piersall is one of them. Currently, Wendy is moving through quite a process over at Emomsathome. She is rebranding her blog network. And having been privileged to be part of the process, I can assure you there is a LOT of personal growth happening over there. Don’t believe me? Check out this post on the Empty Blog Nest.

Let’s get at least one resource in the mix from a more personal developmenty blog! You think money can’t buy happiness? Check out this post from Rick Cockrum at Shards of Consciousness, How Money Can Buy You Happiness. You might be surprised.

And finally, don’t forget that Oprah and Eckhart Tolle’s Worldwide world-changing Webinar moves into week 5 on Monday evening. This week will focuon on Chapter 5 of Eckhart’s book, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose.

If you haven’t watched last week’s class, you can access the On Demand version Oprah’s New Earth Web Event here and download a video, MP3, watch a streaming version or grab a transcript of the show.

A New Earth – Week 3: The Core of Ego

March 18th, 2008 Edward Mills Posted in Personal Growth, a new earth, attachment, consciousness, eckhart tolle, ego, oprah, possessions No Comments »

A New Earth - Oprah and Eckhart TolleHave you been following along with the reading and webcasts from the Oprah and Eckhart Tolle webinar on A New Earth? I just got the latest stats on this ground-breaking event:

  • 826,000 people are registered.
  • There have been over 4.5 million streams/downloads of the webcasts.
  • People from 130 countries are participating.

If you missed last night’s webcast or any of the previous webcasts, you can download the video, audio or transcript of all the shows at the A New Earth download page.

The Core of Ego and Law of Attraction

This week the focus is on The Core of Ego. If you’re a Law of Attraction practitioner, I’m sure you saw the connection between the some of the concepts in this chapter and some of the lessons from Law of Attraction!

Eckhart describes how one of the ego’s favorite activity is complaining. From Law of Attraction, we know that complaining is is a form of focusing our attention on what we don’t want. As long as we continue to complain about what is “wrong” in our lives (ego) it is difficult to get more of what we want in our lives.

Why do you complain? (We all do!) Are there certain areas of your life that you find yourself complaining about more than others? Why?

Tolle suggests that merely becoming aware of the ego limits its ability to direct our thoughts and actions. Have you found this to be true? And if so, what steps will you take to become aware of your ego?

Truth: Relative or Absolute

Another key point in this chapter focused on Truth and how we use truth both as individuals and as groups to maintain our sense of superiority. Tolle writes this about Truth and religions:

All religions are equally false and equally true, depending on how you use them. You can use them in service of the ego, or you can use them in service of the Truth. If you believe only your religion is the Truth, you are using it in the service of the ego. Used in such a way, religion becomes ideology and creates an illusory sense of superiority as well as division and conflict between people. In the service of Truth, religious teachings represent signposts or maps left behind by awakened humans to assist you in spiritual awakening.

All of us have moments in our lives when we are in service of ego and times when we are in service of the truth. How do you know the difference? What do you feel when you catch yourself serving ego? What do you feel when you recognize that you are serving the Truth? And what steps can you take, in the moment when you catch yourself serving ego, to begin making the shift back to Truth?

Other Thoughts/Questions:

  • Does a gradual path really take us to the place of being free and joyous? Or must we have the sudden awakening AKA the AHA Moment?
  • What is your definition of inner peace?
  • What are some experience that you want to share this week?

Week 3 Quotes (Flower Petals):

Your greatest protection is being conscious.

Whatever you fight, you strengthen and what you resist persists.

A New Earth – Week 2: Ego

March 11th, 2008 Edward Mills Posted in Books, Personal Growth, a new earth, attachment, consciousness, eckhart tolle, ego, life hacks, oprah, possessions No Comments »

A New Earth - Oprah and Eckhart Tolle
In week 2 of the Oprah, Eckhart Tolle webinar on A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life Purpose, we begin an exploration of ego. Let’s use this space to continue to explore this concept.

What does ego mean to you?

How did Tolle’s explanation of ego in the book and/or webinar deepen or shift your understanding of the concept?

Identifying with objects

In the book, Tolle tells the story of a dying woman who accused one of her caregivers of stealing her diamond ring. Tolle describes the anger this woman experienced because of the loss of this “valuable” object. He went on to share that:

“In the last few weeks of her life, as her body became weaker, she became more and more radiate, as if light were shining through her. She gave many of her possessions away, some to the woman she thought had stolen the ring, and with each thing she gave away, her joy deepened.”

What objects do you identify with?

Look around your home or office and ask yourself “how many of the things I see do I describe as ‘mine?’”

How would it feel to give these things away?

Can you imagine being in a state where giving away these possessions would bring deeper joy?

What is in the way of that happening now?

Your Week 2 Flower Petals:

In the workbook for the webinar we are being asked to pick our two favorite passages or quotes from the book. At the end of the 10-weeks, we will have a beautiful flower whose petals inspire us to continue the process of awakening.

What are your petals from week 2?

Here are mine.

When you don’t cover up the world with words and labels, a sense of the miraculous returns to your life.

Yielding means inner acceptance of what is. You are open to life. Resistance is an inner contraction, a hardening of the ego. You are closed. Whatever action you take in a state of inner resistance (which we could also call negativity) will create more outer resistance, and the universe will not be on your side; life will not be helpful. If the shutters are closed, the sunlight cannot come in. When you yield internally, when you surrender, a new dimension of consciousness opens up. If action is possible or necessary, your action will be in alignment with the whole and supported by creative intelligence.

Use the comments space below to leave your quotes, answers to the questions above, or any thoughts, observations or further questions you might have.

Personal Growth Resource Roundup #13

March 8th, 2008 Edward Mills Posted in Law of Attraction, Link Love, Personal Growth, a new earth, eckhart tolle, leading edge, life hacks, oprah, vision No Comments »

personal growth resourcesWell this lucky 13 edition of the Personal Growth Resource Roundup is chock full of goodness! Seems to me that the quality of personal growth related content on the web just keeps getting better and better. And to that I say, “Rock On!”

First up is the Law of Attraction carnival. If you haven’t heard, Dean Lacono of Law of Attraction for Beginners, and Ellie Walsh of Living the Law of Attraction have taken over the longest running Law of Attraction blog carnival. And so far, they’re doing a great job! The theme of this edition, number 29, is Relationships - How to use the Law of Attraction to create, maintain, improve relationships.

Then there’s Jonathan Field’s post Is Visionary Just Another Word for Masochistic? I don’t know about you, but sometimes being out here on the Leading Edge of Thought feels pretty crappy! But I wouldn’t give up my spot on the Leading Edge for anything. Does that make me a masochist? Maybe. Jonathan starts with this quote from this Seth Godin post, “Remarkable visions and genuine insight are always met with resistance.” If you feel that your Visions are being met with resistance, go check out this article.

Next up, Dawud Miracle takes an inspiring look at what we can learn from how Ben Franklin ran his businesses. There are number of excellent lessons to be learned from Ben, but I think this is my favorite: “Do not fear mistakes. You will know failure. Continue to reach out.”

Alex Shalman must have taken a look in my car when he wrote this extremely helpful post on How to Declutter Your Car! If your car looks like mine, go check it out.

And finally, don’t forget that Oprah and Eckhart Tolle’s Worldwide world-changing Webinar continues Monday evening. This week will focuon on Chapter 2 of Eckhart’s book, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose.

They promise to have the technical issues worked out. So if you had problems watching last week’s webcast, hopefully this one will be better.

If you haven’t watched last week’s class, you can access the On Demand version Oprah’s New Earth Web Event here and download a video, MP3, watch a streaming version or grab a transcript of the show.

Well now you can. So click on over and join in the discussion that Oprah and Eckhart Tolle are catalyzing: Can 500,000 people change the world?

Can Half A Million People Create A New Earth?

Last night’s historic webcast with Oprah and Eckhart Tolle attracted nearly 500,000 viewers. So many people, in fact, that for a lot of us, including myself, the webcast became unwatchable around 20-minutes into it. Here’s a press release from Harpo Productions with more details about the webcast.

If you were not able to view the webcast live, you can access the On Demand version Oprah’s New Earth Web Event here and download a video, MP3, watch a streaming version or grab a transcript of the show.

The workbook that accompanies chapter 1 has some excellent questions to consider based on the information in the book and from the webcast. But I’d like to use this space to explore some other aspects that were explored in the show last night as well as in the book. Watch for a post in a day or so with another topic for exploration.

But right now, let’s start with a question that Tolle poses while he is explaining the purpose of the book. He asks:

Is humanity ready for a transformation of consciousness, an inner flowering so radical and profound that compared to it the flowering of plants, no matter how beautiful, is only a pale reflection? … Is humanity more ready now than at the time of those early teachers [Jesus & Buddha]? … What can you do, if anything, to bring about or accelerate this inner shift?

A New Earth - Oprah and Eckhart TolleWhat do you think? Are we, as individuals and collectively, more ready for an inner flowering of consciousness? Do you, personally, feel ready for a radical and profound inner flowering? And, if so, how can we as individuals and collectively accelerate this process?

Leave your thoughts in the comments below and let’s begin exploring and expanding upon the world-changing ideas in this book!

Personal Growth Resource Roundup #12

February 23rd, 2008 Edward Mills Posted in Books, Personal Growth, Resources, a new earth, eckhart tolle, mark joyner, oprah, power of now, procrastination No Comments »

It’s time for another roundup of the best Personal Growth Resources on the web. This one has some interesting and unusual resources for you. So be sure to check them all out.

First, lets take a trip over to visit Oprah. Last week when I went to check out the Law of Attraction Carnival posted at Living The Law of Attraction, I noticed a link to an Oprah Book Club discussion on Eckhart Tolle’s book, A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose. I thought, “You’ve got to be kidding.”

But no, it’s for real. Beginning on March 3rd, Oprah and Eckhart will be hosting a 10-week webinar exploring the ideas in A New Earth.

Having been a huge fan of Tolle’s since reading his book, The Power of Now: A Guide to Spiritual Enlightenment several years ago, I jumped at the chance to read A New Earth when it first came out in 2006. It’s an amazing, life-changing book. Get it! And then get over to Oprah’s site and register for the Eckhart and Oprah Webinar on A New Earth.

Next up is a new program from my friend, Adam Kayce, of Monk at Work. For the past week I’ve been checking out his new Inner Peace Audio program. I’ll have a full review in a week or so, but if what I’ve heard so far is any indication, this program is definitely worth checking out. I’ve already gotten great insights through using the Inner Decision Making process. Go check out the Inner Peace Audio program and watch for a full review soon.

This next resource struck a chord with me the moment I (literally) stumbled-upon it. I admit it: I’ve been a procrastinator for much of my life. It’s a pattern that has held me back for much of my life. And I am actively looking at the opportunities for growth that this pattern holds for me. But this article on Structured Procrastination by John Perry provides such a unique way of looking at this habit, and provided such a powerful way to leverage procrastination to actually get more done, I just had to share it with you. I’ve started looking at how I can use Structured Procrastination to accomplish more. And if you have a tendency toward procrastination, I highly recommend you check it out.

And if you haven’t read Mark Joyner’s new report, Rise of The Author, I HIGHLY recommend you go download it now. Even if you have no interest in becoming a published author, there is some truly paradigm busting information in that report! Go check it out.

And finally, let’s end with a powerful, positive message from Alex Blackwell at The Next 45 Years. If you’ve ever wondered how to keep your forward momentum going, his post, Nine Ways to Keep Moving Forward, will give you some great ideas.

Well that’s it for this roundup. I hope you enjoy these resources and I’ll see you next time.
