Empower Yourself With Intuition: Five Steps To Develop Your Sixth Sense

October 23rd, 2008 Judith Orloff Posted in Judith Orloff, Meditation, belief, intuition, intuitive healing, intuitive voice, mind, negative attitudes, positive attitudes No Comments »

I am a psychiatrist who specializes in intuition. When patients come to see me, I listen to them with my intellect as well my intuition, a potent form of inner wisdom not mediated by the rational mind. Accessible to all, it’s a still, small voice inside-an unflinching truth-teller committed to our well-being. Sometimes I experience it as a snap-shot-like flash, a gut feeling, a hunch, a physical sensation, a dream. Whatever the form, it is always a friend, keeping a steady eye on our bodies and spirits, letting us know if something is out of sync.

As a psychiatrist I see many people with everything material they can ever want, and still they feel lost. What’s missing is a palpable connection with their intuitive voice, one that will always guide them in an empowered direction. I believe that without this connection, it’s impossible to lead a truly passionate life, based on instinct and authentic inner knowledge. I’ve written Dr. Judith Orloff’s Guide to Intuitive Healing: Five Steps to Physical, Emotional, and Sexual Wellness as a primer on how everyone can develop intuition and utilize it as a powerful tool for living. Intuition is not something I simply teach my patients. It has become a way of life for me. The magic of intuition is that it insists you live in the moment with no expectations, a continuing freshness. Intuition is our birthright, available to everyone. To access it, I’ve developed five steps that can be applied to any issue you’ll ever confront from healing your body, to riding a roller-coaster of emotions to sexual awakening. I live by these five steps I suggest you give them a try. My hope is that they will bring you the joy and clarity you’ve been searching for.

Step 1: Notice Your Beliefs

Your beliefs set the stage for healing. Positive attitudes stimulate growth. Negative attitudes impede it. It’s important to rid yourself of counterproductive attitudes that you may not even realize you have. If you examine your beliefs, choose life-enhancing ones, you’ll create optimal wellness. No organ system stands apart from your thoughts. Your beliefs program your neurochemicals. You must know that you can tune into intuition which can promote your health and healing.

How to Develop Your Psychic Abilities

Step 2: Be In Your Body

Your body provides vital information about intuition. You must make a commitment to listen to what your body says. Ask yourself, “Does my energy go up or down around someone?” Is my gut giving me a “beware signal” or do I feel comfortable around someone?’ Does my gut feel good about a decision? Pay attention to these signs. Most people in Western society are conditioned to live from the neck up, ignoring the rest of their body. This stance is counter-intuitive. I’d like you to shift that perspective become more aware of early warning signs your body sends. This gives you a head-start on preventing illness and pain, warding off panic and choosing healthy relationships.

Step 3: Sense Your Body’s Subtle Energy

We are made up of energy which can be sensed with intuition. Chinese Medical Practitioners call this “chi,” a vital substance which penetrates the body and extends many feet beyond it. From an intuitive point of view, these vibrant energy fields, whose centers are called chakras have a significant effect on our health. For that reason, it is important that we learn to sense this energy within us, recognize when it is off, and learn to correct the imbalance. The best way to start sensing energy is to be aware of the “vibes” people give off. Always grativate to people you’re most comfortable with.

Step 4: Ask for Inner Guidance

We each possess an intuitive voice that contains answers about our healing. Because our intellect is often so loud, this voice often gets drowned out. It’s essential that we learn to access the stillness within–though meditation, quite contemplation, connecting with nature, prayer-in order to gain answers about our health. Spend a few minutes each day devoted to listening to this voice. It may appear as a gut feeling, a hunch, an image, a sound, a memory, an instant knowing-as if a light bulb suddenly switched on. Learn to trust the signals your inner wisdom sends.

Step 5: Listen To Your Dreams

Intuition is the language of dreams. Every ninety minutes each night during the REM stage of sleep, we dream. Dreams provide answers about health, relationships, career choices, any new direction. The secret is to remember them. I suggest keeping a dream journal by your bed. Before you go to sleep, ask a dream a question. For instance, “Is this relationship healthy for me or should I move on?” The next morning, write down any dreams immediately before getting out of bed. Try repeating the question, every night for the next week until your answer comes. As you develop the habit of remembering dreams, you’ll be able to benefit from this form of healing. As a physician, I have a continual sense of awe for the relationship between body and spirit. As your heat opens, so does your intuition. Your intuition will teach you how to see and how to love. It will instill in you a renewed faith to face anything.

Ways To Remove Negative Thoughts Which Hold You Back From Thinking Positive?

May 20th, 2008 Kacy Carr Posted in Positive Thinking, belief, deep breaths, health and happiness, mind and body, negative thinking, negative thoughts, negativity, relaxation response, relaxation technique, stress, tension No Comments »

What are negative thoughts and if I at any time should I be affected with pessimistic thinking should I be concerned. Yes is the answer. The more positive you are in thought will certainly help dampen any off-putting hold me back negatives which restrict you from living a decent life, Negative thinking has seen man or woman, who, ideal for a job post lose it before having had chance to secure it, because they believed they were not worthy enough.

Any negative thoughts you have about your self have to be dealt with sooner than later for health and happiness to prevail and more importantly prosper. Negative thinking can affect a relationship.

Cognitive restructuring can help a person identify and challenge overly simplistic, negative thoughts that cause pointless distress. Not a healthy combination, negativity and stress, in fact both very destructive factors. To lead what one would call a normal life will entail you change your way of thinking. What is a normal, normal is having belief in your self which in return will help you to venture forth and cope with the wicked ways of the world and the people in it? To help cure your way of thinking is easier when the thoughts are clearly untrue: e.g. “I never do anything right,” It’s harder when there’s an element of truth mixed in with naive lies: “At my age, it’s to late its over; there is nothing out there for me now.” You can stop there right now; the pope is proof, candidates for this position - 65 years and over. If you have a dream or goals then do something about it

There are four elements you can follow to prevent stress caused from negative thoughts:

1.Stop and take time out to think positive (mental time-out).

2.Control your breathing. Breathe in taking deep breaths slowly to help release growing tension.

3. It may sound silly but ask yourself some questions, like is my thoughts belief or true? Do I make hasty decisions about myself? What evidence do I actually have that I am worthy of the cause? Am I letting negative thoughts stand in my way? Look at situations and view them in a different manner. What would be the worst that could happen? Some people find the healing process (managing thoughts) all too much and opt for the easy way out continuing to put them self down and worse still permitting others to follow suit. Ask yourself that if I did not think this way where would you be.

4. If distortion is the root of the problem, can you identify this and let go? Practicing relaxation techniques may well be the course of therapy needed. If your problem is genuine, ask what steps you can take to manage? It takes much rehearsal to restructure negative thoughts. What is that saying “A leopard never changes its spots” I beg to differ, if you want something badly and that something can change your life for the better then may the leopard shed his coat?

Remember to be yourself, do not snub reality or take on a false identity. Regularly it’s possible to move your focus toward the positive, rather than lodging on the negative. At other times, you can acknowledge an agonizing truth without losing sight of the larger, more positive portrait. For example, “I should be practicing a relaxation response system daily” or better still “I “want” to practice a relaxation response system daily. If you feel sick don’t let the illness get your sympathy vote, feeling sorry for yourself is not a cure. Negative thoughts usually result in “I feel sick today and there is nothing I can do, hold up, of course there is. Think of what is the best way to treat your condition. Think of the available medications to relieve the pain. If negative thoughts are deeply inset, then you must speak to your doctor or an experienced mental health expert. More people are turning to therapies which include dealing with the mind and body and are bouncing back to reality. Put the bounce back in your stride as you jolly your way onto a new way of thinking.

Law of Attraction: Why It’s Never Too Late To Start Using It Now

April 27th, 2008 Other Authors Posted in Affirmations, Doreen Virtue, Healing, Law of Attraction, Louise L. Hay, Wayne Dyer, belief, emotional problems, hay house, law of attraction books, oprah winfrey, success, visualization, wish No Comments »

There are so many people just learning about The Law of Attraction who say they wish they had learned it when they were younger. “Oh how different their life would be!” they exclaim.

I’m here to tell you that it is never too late to learn or to reap the benefits of this wonderful way of thinking.

The perfect example of this is a recent episode that was on Oprah Winfrey‘s show. She was doing a follow-up on The Secret and more ways people could learn to use the Law of Attraction in their lives.

She had as one of her guests, Louise Hay. Talk about inspiring! Louise Hay did not start learning about the Law of Attraction until she was 50 years old. However, now at 81 she has accomplished more within the last 30 years than most people accomplish in their entire lifetimes! (Not to mention she also looks awesome!)

Louise Hay is a best selling author as well as the extremely successful publisher of Hay House books. If you have purchased any best selling Law of Attraction books over the last 10 years or so, you might be very familiar with the name.

This is a woman who has an extremely difficult upbringing. Her childhood was unstable and impoverished, and her teen years were marked by abuse.

She went through a divorce after 14 years of marriage and when later in life she was diagnosed with cancer, she put her philosophies into practice and instead of using surgery or drugs, developed an intensive program of affirmations, visualization, nutritional cleansing and psychotherapy. Within six months she was cancer free.

In 1984 she published her book titled You Can Heal Your Life based on her own experiences and included the information she talked about in her work shops. It explains how our beliefs and ideas about ourselves are often the cause of our emotional problems and physical maladies and how, by using certain tools, we can change our thinking and our lives for the better.

It reached the New York Times bestseller list and stayed there for 13 consecutive weeks.

To date, over 35,000,000 copies of the books have been sold. But she didn’t stop there. She then became the head of Hay House , a prosperous corporation that has sold more than ten million books and tapes since it started. It includes authors such as Wayne Dyer, Doreen Virtue, among others. This was a venture she started in her living room.

She then proceeded to start the Hay Foundation and The Louise L. Hay Charitable Fund, two non-profit organizations established by Louise that support many diverse organizations, including those dealing with AIDS, battered women, and other challenged individuals in our society.

Now at 81 years old, she had just come out with her first movie release titled, You Can Heal Your Life: The Movie.

So let’s do a quick rundown shall we?

Unstable and poor childhood Abused as a teenager Divorced after 14 years of marriage Diagnosed with Cancer (though this was later in life)
Learns about the Law of Attraction at age 50

Starts training in a ministerial program Becomes a popular speaker at a Religious Science church and starts counseling clients Lectures at workshops on people loving themselves and healing their lives Cures herself of cancer through alternative means Publishes her own New York Times Bestseller and sells over 35,000,000 copies Forms “The Hayride” , a famous support group for people with AIDS Starts her own publishing house with some of the greatest Law of Attraction writers today Starts two non-profit organizations in her name Contributes tons of articles to newspapers and magazine articles Appears on television around the world Has a monthly column titled “Dear Louise” that appears in more than 50 publications around the world At 81years old, releases her first-ever film on her life and work You Can Heal Your Life: The Movie

So, if you ever had a single doubt about all the different ways the Law of Attraction could work for you, or had a moments hesitation about how old you are when you are beginning to learn it, look to this wonderfully inspirational woman.

It is never too late. Think about it. Isn’t even just one day lived in complete peace worth it? Now just imagine doing it for the rest of your lifetime.

The Secret Power of Faith

April 2nd, 2008 Other Authors Posted in Dreams, Life, Motivation, Spirituality, belief, emotions, faith, faith in action, feelings, helen keller, material wealth No Comments »

“Optimism is the faith that leads to achievement. Nothing can be done without hope and confidence.”
-Helen Keller

The power of your Faith is effective only when you are willing to risk whatever the situation demands of you and in whatever you attempt to do. Whether it’s freedom from illness, finding material wealth, and experiencing life itself, without a certain amount of risk, your faith is inactive. You are not testing its secret power.

Whenever you are really clear about something you wish to do and know why you wish it to happen, you must then put all of the power of your faith behind your actions to make it happen. Any action you attempt to do must come from your strongest desire and purpose.

How do discoverers, scientists, inventors of new products, and so-called geniuses perfect their achievements? By trusting in a faith that is active, they use it to achieve their dreams. Any new discovery or achievement is the result of faith in action; the secret power that comes from within. It is available to you and everyone who accesses it and uses it.

You may fail to realize your dreams when you separate mental power from personal action. To keep your thoughts and actions strong, you only need to keep focusing on your faith and make sure your emotions are in sync with your dreams. Think about what you like to happen rather then what you don’t wish to happen. This is easy: pay close attention to the way you feel. Your feelings will always take you to where your thoughts are focused.

Get in the habit of making your thinking strong enough so that your attention is on things you desire and on what feels right for you. The opportunity that comes from these clear thoughts will lead you to the necessary action that takes you in the direction you need to go. When your faith is strong enough, you can relax and let it take over. You will create and attract all that is miraculous in your life.

Develop and practice your faith by focusing on a safe, successful outcome for anything you attempt to do. Recognize what your limits are and what may be beyond your reach. If you are thinking about developing a new business, a new product, service, or idea seek help with the areas you lack knowledge and/or skill to do. A strong, passionate belief in your worthiness to succeed is the secret power of faith that will make it happen.

Look until you find that secret power within you. Then after each successful achievement your faith gets stronger. Each achievement inspires you to look for more ways to succeed. You are better prepared to take greater risks. And when you find your secret power you will discover your true self. This gives you the opportunity and motivation to make use of every experience in your life.

So, when you build that better mousetrap, write the next bestseller, or invent the next internet software program, the world will beat a path to your door, recognize you no matter who you are. You will collect the rewards for declaring your faith. Go, do and be full of the power of your faith.

Self Image and Beliefs

March 1st, 2008 Other Authors Posted in Law of Attraction, belief No Comments »

Before you can use The Law of Attraction, and all the other great tools I teach, to create every good thing you want in your life, you must be ready to accept all those good things.

For many of us this is the hardest part. How many times has somebody offered to help you, maybe offered to pay for a shared taxi or something, and you have said “Oh no, that’s alright, I’ll pay”. Well if you can’t accept a taxi fair from a friend, how are you ever going to accept the new life you want from the Universe?

This may be due to a deep seated belief you are probably not even conscious of. It probably goes something like this: “I am really not a very good person so I don’t deserve to have the things that I want. Remember that awful thing I did twenty years ago, I deserve to be punished not rewarded”.

Come on! That was a long time ago. You have grown and evolved since then. You would not do the same thing today. Make amends if you can, and if you can’t just forgive yourself anyway and move on. And remember, you would not be the kind, loving, wise being you are today had you not gone through that and learnt its lessons.

You may not be able to make amends with the people you hurt but what goes around comes around so you can make up for it by helping other people, the people who are in your life now, instead. And if ever you run into those earlier people again just say, “I am sorry, I know I hurt you but I was being the best person I knew how to be at the time. I know how to be a very much better person now and I am using that knowledge to help others”.

As I said, you may not be aware of any of this on the surface. Consciously you may think you are a pretty ok kind of person. However if you find your self talk saying things like “I could never have that” or “I could never stay in that hotel” or “I could never fly first class”, stop and ponder. Do you have an unworthy undercurrent running through your subconscious?

Self image is the way we see ourselves and how we feel about ourselves. It can be complex and multi-faceted. Its important to try and connect with our self image, to bring it into the open where we can work on it. At various times each day ask yourself “How do I feel about myself right now?” Really listen to the answer. For this exercise its important to really listen to the answer. Don’t instantly replace anything negative with a positive affirmation as any self respecting Law of Attraction practitioner normally would. Later but not yet. First listen to the message and it will reveal an undercurrent of false beliefs you never even knew exited.

You can also look in the mirror and ask yourself “How do I look to myself right now?” Yes its ok for the boys to do this as well as the girls. If asking this question makes you feel fat and ugly, skinny, hairy, bald, bloated, maybe you need to give yourself more love and affection, more nurturing. Yes it really is ok to love ourselves, indeed it is essential. We are not being conceited. In fact we cannot love anyone else, our family, friends, pet, the planet, until we first develop a healthy love for ourselves.

Once we have discovered our negative undercurrents we have started to replace them. Affirmations and creative visualisation are great tools to help us develop a healthy self love and a positive self image.

The reason our self image may not be accurate is that we have been brainwashed since birth to believe we are inadequate. Affirmations, creative visualisation and suggestion audio programmes are brainwashing too but now we are doing the brainwashing to ourselves, now we are fighting back.

Always try to think of your own better qualities and remind yourself of them often.
